Coordinator - Niagara River Remedial Action Plan Special Grant Employee Full time - 24-month contract
The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) is a community-based natural resource management agency that works to protect, enhance, and sustain healthy watersheds. With 60 years of experience, the NPCA offers watershed programs and services that focus on flood and hazard management, source water protection, species protection, ecosystem restoration, community stewardship, and land management.
The NPCA is one of 36 Conservation Authorities in the Province of Ontario. With 41 Conservation Areas within the Niagara Peninsula watershed, the NPCA manages lands that are held in public trust for recreation, heritage preservation, conservation, and education. These natural and shared greenspaces marry nature, culture and adventure to create limitless opportunities for discovery.
The Opportunity
The Niagara River Remedial Action Plan (NRRAP) is a special program at the NPCA involving a community-based partnership of various stakeholders working together to improve the Niagara River’s water quality and ecosystem health. This successful individual will coordinate the implementation of RAP-related projects, including technical writing, outreach, data collection/analysis and administrative tasks. This role is classified as a ‘Special Grant Employee’ as it is funded, in whole, by external sources. This is a full-time contract until March 2027 with the possibility of extension.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Coordinating day-to-day administration of the NRRAP program and its related projects including committee and technical working group meeting logistics, recording & distributing meeting minutes, and tracking action items
- Coordinating the implementation of priority actions/projects identified in the NRRAP Delisting Strategy
- Maintaining the NRRAP website, online document library, and internal document database, in accordance with NPCA record retention policies and funding agreements
- Preparing technical reports to support RAP decision-making (i.e., project/data reports, beneficial use impairment assessments)
- Conducting Niagara River coastal wetland monitoring, data analysis and synthesis of scientific results to support RAP decision-making, and reporting to partners, annually.
- Creating and delivering social media content for the NRRAP platforms to promote Niagara River facts, projects, successes, and/or challenges
- Organizing outreach and engagement events and/or activities that support stakeholder participation and interest in the NRRAP (e.g., public presentations, tours, educational events, community plantings, etc.)
What you Bring
- Post-secondary in Environmental Sciences, Conservation, Geography or a related field
- Knowledge of the Niagara River ecosystem and RAP program and/or Great Lakes or interconnecting channel remedial action plan implementation
- A thorough understanding of ecological and environmental principals relating to water quality and ecosystem impairment and corresponding remedial options
- Excellent writing skills and experience writing technical and plain language reports
- Ability to perform basic statistical analysis of scientific data
- Experience with a variety of stakeholder outreach and engagement tools and tactics
