Communications & Marketing Specialist - Corporate Administration - Full Time Contract (12month)

As a community-based natural resource management agency, the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority envisions a healthy and vibrant natural environment with shared greenspace and clean water for all.

NPCA’s work supports the conservation, enhancement, and sustainability of healthy watersheds with programs and services that focus on drinking water source protection, flood and hazard management, endangered species protection, ecosystem restoration, community stewardship, education, and land management.

NPCA is the caretaker of 41 conservation areas within the Niagara Peninsula watershed held in public trust for recreation, heritage preservation, conservation, and education. These natural and shared greenspaces marry nature, culture, and adventure to create limitless opportunities for discovery. 

The Opportunity

As a Communications & Marketing Specialist with the NPCA, you will have an opportunity to directly contribute to NPCA’s organizational vision through your demonstrated expertise and experience in corporate communications, media relations, and digital marketing. As part of a dynamic and collaborative team you will assist in the development and delivery of communications, marketing and engagement programs and initiatives that support NPCA’s strategic plan, as well as its provincial mandate, regulations and policies.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate corporate communications campaigns, including strategy, resource development, and analytics.
  • Act as the lead for media relations, managing inquiries, coordinating interviews, and fostering positive relationships with media outlets and stakeholders.
  • Build and nurture NPCA’s social media presence, including content curation, paid social strategies, and community engagement, to promote NPCA’s properties, programs, and initiatives.
  • Support public consultation and community engagement processes, such as floodplain mapping consultations and community events.
  • Research, write, and edit communications materials, including press releases, social media copy, corporate reports, etc.
  • Coordinate the creation and distribution of marketing products and materials to align with NPCA’s brand standards and organizational needs.
  • Manage website content and the NPCA online engagement platform, ensuring accurate, engaging, and timely updates.
  • Identify opportunities for positive and proactive media coverage and pitch relevant stories, to position NPCA as subject matter experts for interviews and appearances.
  • Support corporate events and initiatives through strategic marketing and promotions, enhancing community engagement.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to address marketing and communications deliverables effectively, ensuring strong attention to detail and alignment with corporate goals.  

What You Bring

  • Degree or Diploma in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or a related discipline
  • 4 years’ professional experience in public relations, issues management and/or media relations
  • Proven experience creating and successfully attaining earned media
  • Proven experience successfully composing and executing media releases and other supporting communications and media relations products (backgrounders, fact sheets etc.)
  • Superior written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Experience in developing and executing digital marketing and social media strategies

Home Base Location: NPCA Main Office – 3350 Merrittville Hwy, Thorold with travel within the watershed (valid driver’s license required)
