NPCA’s work supports the conservation, enhancement, and sustainability of healthy watersheds with programs and services that focus on drinking water source protection, flood and hazard management, endangered species protection, ecosystem restoration, community stewardship, education, and land management.

NPCA is the caretaker of 43 conservation areas within the Niagara Peninsula watershed held in public trust for recreation, heritage preservation, conservation, and education. These natural and shared greenspaces marry nature, culture, and adventure to create limitless opportunities for discovery.

The Opportunity
As the GIS Administrator, you will oversee the full lifecycle of the Authority’s spatial and non-spatial data systems—from implementation and configuration to maintenance and optimization. You will be responsible for administrating GIS servers, databases, and applications; developing and deploying customized web and mobile mapping solutions; and integrating GIS with other enterprise systems to improve data accessibility and workflow efficiency. The role also involves designing and maintaining field data collection tools, creating dashboards and reports to support decision-making, and ensuring system security, performance, and compliance with industry standards. This position offers the opportunity to apply both technical expertise and strategic vision to modernize the Authority’s GIS infrastructure and deliver innovative geospatial solutions that directly support organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Overseeing the design, implementation, and maintenance of the enterprise GIS architecture - including system administration, data and business process integration, workflow enhancement tools, and open spatial data initiatives, to ensure optimized operations, informed decision-making, and public transparency
  • Designing and implementing custom spatial and non-spatial applications that enhance departmental workflows, improve operational efficiency, and expand public access to open data
  • Designing, maintaining, and securing enterprise GIS databases and servers, ensuring data integrity, redundancy, and accessibility to support custom applications and tools
  • Modeling, documenting, and maintaining spatial and non-spatial datasets while providing analytical support for GIS projects as needed
  • Providing technical documentation, staff training, and support for GIS and business applications, enhancing information management workflows and facilitating public access to open data.

What you Bring

  • Degree from a recognized university in Geographic Information Systems or Post-secondary certificate or diploma in Geographic Information Systems with an undergraduate degree in Geography, Environmental Studies or a related field
  • Two (2) years’ experience in Web GIS integration and/or ArcGIS Online
  • Two (2) years’ experience with GIS server technology and web server administration (ArcGIS Server/Enterprise)
  • Experience working with RDBMS and ETL tools, SQL Server and Safe FME preferred
  • Valid ‘G’ class driver’s license
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to effectively collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team
