Manager, Climate Change & Sustainability Programs Watershed Strategies & Climate Change

NPCA’s work supports the conservation, enhancement, and sustainability of healthy watersheds with programs and services that focus on drinking water source protection, flood and hazard management, endangered species protection, ecosystem restoration, community stewardship, education, and land management.

NPCA is the caretaker of 41 conservation areas within the Niagara Peninsula watershed held in public trust for recreation, heritage preservation, conservation, and education. These natural and shared greenspaces marry nature, culture, and adventure to create limitless opportunities for discovery.

The Opportunity
The Climate Change and Sustainability Programs Manager will lead the development, management, coordination and evaluation of NPCA’s Climate Change Action Plan (CCAP) initiatives and projects. With a proficient understanding of environmental and sustainability issues and principles, this role will work across departments to integrate climate action and sustainability practices in business operations. The ideal candidate will have experience working with multistakeholder groups including government agencies, non-government organizations, Indigenous partners, academics and community members, fostering strong relationships that drive collaborative sustainability initiatives.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading the planning, development, and implementation of diverse multi-stakeholder activities, strategies, and studies relating to NPCA climate change and sustainability projects that advance strategic goals
  • Working with relevant teams to design and complete program evaluation including a method for collecting and analyzing data to determine the effectiveness of a program and contributing towards continuous program development
  • Promoting the understanding and culture of sustainability through NPCA operations, integrating climate change and sustainability considerations into day-to-day operations, communications and decision making processes.
  • Working with external partners to advance collaborative local climate change action within NPCA’s jurisdiction
  • Working with relevant staff and partners to advance climate research collaborations with academic institutions
  • Leading internal and public outreach and engagement opportunities to increase awareness, involvement and participation in climate action and sustainability initiatives.
  • Participating as the co-lead in the Niagara Climate Change Action Network’s coordinating committee, including attending meetings, supporting agenda development, and organization of the Niagara Climate Change Summit
  • Providing strong leadership including project management, budget management, and guiding staff in the development and achievement of work plan goals

What you Bring

  • A Degree from a recognized university in environmental studies, climate change studies, or a physical, natural or applied environmental science program
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation an asset
  • Minimum five (5) years related experience
  • Experience planning, organizing and administering multi-stakeholder environmental programs
  • A thorough understanding of legislative and regulatory processes related to environmental management and climate change.
  • Strong research and analytical skills including synthesizing and presenting results
  • Excellent report writing skills and verbal communications skills, both technical and plain language

Home Base Location: NPCA Main Office – 3350 Merrittville Hwy, Thorold with travel within the watershed
