Park Services Representative Conservation Areas Seasonal – OPSEU Union Position

NPCA is the caretaker of 41 conservation areas within the Niagara Peninsula watershed held in public trust for recreation, heritage preservation, conservation, and education. These natural and shared greenspaces marry nature, culture, and adventure to create limitless opportunities for discovery.

Summary of Duties

Under the guidance of the Park Manager, the Park Services Representative leads the day-to-day operations of the Conservation Area. This role will also support the Park Manager with financial goals and revenue targets along with implementation of marketing strategies to increase positive visitor experience. The incumbent will independently resolve escalated customer service issues and resolve conflicts within the designated park as they arise. The successful applicant will have general knowledge and ability to manage routine park maintenance issues and effectively respond to emergencies in the absence of the Park Manager.

This role is seasonal in nature with expectations of full-time hours from April to October 2025.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service to conservation area visitors regarding conservation area services, programs, facility bookings, admission, retail and membership pass sales and conservation area rules and regulations
  • Oversee gatehouse operations including cash, POS and reservation systems
  • Implement facility bookings and administer contracts for facility rental agreements
  • Assist in implementing business and marketing strategies for the conservation area
  • Suggest revenue-generating programs and services to Park Manager 
  • Assist with NPCA programs and events and setup for facility rentals

Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in Recreation and Leisure, Hospitality, Administration or a related field
  • Five (5) years of experience in Customer Service
  • Experience operating POS and reservation systems
  • Working knowledge of general facility and grounds maintenance
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Current knowledge of computer applications
  • Excellent customer service skills, including verbal and written communication
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to problem solve and diffuse situations
  • Valid G class driver’s license
  • First Aid and CPR C an asset
  • Must be available to work full-time hours from April to October 2024.

Applicants will be assigned to one location but may be asked to work at any of the locations listed below. Please indicate your location preference(s) as part of your application. This role will be required to work some evening and week-end shifts.

  • Long Beach Conservation Area (Wainfleet)
  • Chippawa Creek Conservation Area (Wellandport)
  • Binbrook Conservation Area (Hamilton)
  • Salary Range:   Starting at $28.74 (35 hours/week)
