NPCA’s work supports the conservation, enhancement, and sustainability of healthy watersheds with programs and services that focus on drinking water source protection, flood and hazard management, endangered species protection, ecosystem restoration, community stewardship, education, and land management.

NPCA is the caretaker of 43 conservation areas within the Niagara Peninsula watershed held in public trust for recreation, heritage preservation, conservation, and education. These natural and shared greenspaces marry nature, culture, and adventure to create limitless opportunities for discovery.

The Opportunity
As a red seal certified tradesperson, a great problem solver and a love of the outdoors, the Technical Coordinator, Land Care supports the NPCA Operational Infrastructure and will be is responsible for maintenance, repairs, improvements and enhancements to Infrastructure at all NPCA’s Conservation Areas under the guidance of the Manager. Infrastructure at NPCA’s conservation areas includes several types of facilities, including wildlife preserves, natural areas, historical buildings and assets, campgrounds, pavilions, concessions and gatehouses, bridges, shelters, parking areas, as well as various types of equipment.

Key Responsibilities Include:

 

  • Performing general and semi-skilled building and building systems construction, installations, maintenance, and repair work including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, drywall, carpentry, flooring, heating, cooling, ventilation, painting, tile, and brick work and other related tasks
  • Conducting regular inspections of all parks infrastructure to identify potential issues and perform necessary preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Supporting emergency issues and urgent concerns involving NPCA buildings, structures, electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems, as well as flooding on NPCA lands as required.
  • Operating heavy equipment for operational projects and related works, ensuring safe and efficient use of machinery on job sites.
  • Assembling, installing, and repairing park equipment, amenities and signage including benches, tables, gazebos and bridges
  • Ensuring the optimal delivery of safe services to visitors of parks in accordance with established standards
  • Assisting in assessing the condition of all capital assets
  • Providing outstanding customer service in responding to visitor inquiries, general questions and concerns
  • Assisting with the planning and delivery of special events and other programming

What you Bring

  • Diploma from a recognized University or College in skilled trade, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Red-seal certification and five or more years’ experience in a relevant skilled trade (e.g. Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic, Plumber, Carpenter, Electrician, Automotive Service Technician or related).
  • Experience in the building and infrastructure maintenance of parks or other recreational facilities
  • Demonstrated ability to safely use a variety of power tools, machinery and equipment
  • Sound working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC and carpentry
  • Valid G class Driver’s License
  • Additional training in Chainsaw Safety, Working at Heights, Skid Steer, scissor and boom lift training an asset
