NPCA’s work supports the conservation, enhancement, and sustainability of healthy watersheds with programs and
services that focus on drinking water source protection, flood and hazard management, endangered species
protection, ecosystem restoration, community stewardship, education, and land management.
NPCA is the caretaker of 41 conservation areas within the Niagara Peninsula watershed held in public trust for
recreation, heritage preservation, conservation, and education. These natural and shared greenspaces marry
nature, culture, and adventure to create limitless opportunities for discovery.

The Opportunity
The Watershed Monitoring Technician supports the implementation of the Watershed Monitoring and Reporting
program by collecting and identifying field samples, deploying and maintaining equipment. The Watershed Monitoring
Technician will be responsible for recording data accurately and in a timely manner and will assist in reporting on
findings

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Undertaking all field work for the Lower Welland River Fisheries study and special surface water quality projects including sample preparation, fish community monitoring, collecting water samples (surface), terrestrial monitoring and installation and operating of passive samplers/sensors/data loggers.
  • Processing and identification of fish from the NPCA’s biological monitoring program using assigned protocols
  • Ensuring timely and accurate data input and quality assurance of all data collected as well as identifying any data anomalies.
  • Assist with the production of water quality monitoring reports
  • Providing field support to other NPCA divisions conducting monitoring activities

What you Bring

• Post-secondary education in Environmental Science or a related field
• Two (2) years of water quality fisheries related work experience (field and lab)
• Electrofishing certification a definite asset
• Excellent organizational and time management skills along with attention to detail
