The NPCA begins process to develop 2021-2031 Strategic Plan
The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) invites members of the community in Niagara, Haldimand, and Hamilton to get involved in the exciting process of shaping the next 10 years of conservation in the Niagara Peninsula watershed.
This new strategic planning process begins with a fresh approach toward a shared vision. A representative team of staff from various departments are leading the process under the direction of a Strategic Planning Committee of the NPCA Board and advice of NPCA’s Public Advisory Committee, to work towards a common inspirational vision that will further the conservation, restoration, and management of the watershed.
“Collaboration between people, communities, and organizations within the Niagara Peninsula watershed is vital to shaping the future of the landscape,” says NPCA Chief Administrative Officer, Chandra Sharma. “We will need to work together on a collective response to the many any issues the watershed will be facing including climate change and population growth. How we shape conservation in the next 10 years is critical to achieving a resilient and healthy watershed.”
With several preliminary activities completed, which facilitated the development of key draft components, the NPCA is engaging the watershed community in this early stage of the strategic planning process to obtain input on broad strategic priorities and share ideas toward a shared vision. This engagement and community participation will take place through virtual means, with traditional methods available as requested.
Community members are encouraged to visit the Get Involved NPCA portal, home to the online engagement space for the strategic plan. An anonymous survey seeking feedback on draft strategic priorities is now available and will be followed by additional opportunities to virtually engage in this project before a strategic plan is completed.
“Everyone has a role to play in protecting and conserving our healthy watersheds and we hope the community will join us in shaping the future of this unique and precious landscape,” adds NPCA staff project manager, Natalie Green. “We are committed to communicating frequently and providing various opportunities for involvement.”
