STATEMENT ON NEW WHISTLEBLOWER POLICY PASSED BY BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Good governance requires a review of all policies of which the whistleblower policy was one. The Board of Directors passed a motion in April 2019 and provided direction for staff to prepare a whistleblower policy as a means to establish a workplace committed to a high standard of ethics and to encourage integrity and honesty. It was carefully crafted with input from employees through meetings with management and Union representatives.

Steps were taken to research best practices in whistleblower policies, and as such, we found that there are other conservation authorities with whistleblower procedures in place, including Toronto and Region Conservation Authority.

This policy provides a mechanism for bringing forward concerns related to unethical or illegal behaviours, activities or practices within our organization. The NPCA is pleased to have adopted this policy as we move into 2020.
