The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) is a community-based natural resource management agency that works to protect, enhance, and sustain healthy watersheds. With 60 years of experience, the NPCA offers watershed programs and services that focus on flood and hazard management, source water protection, species protection, ecosystem restoration, community stewardship, and land management.

The NPCA is one of 36 Conservation Authorities in the Province of Ontario. With 41 Conservation Areas within the Niagara Peninsula watershed, the NPCA manages lands that are held in public trust for recreation, heritage preservation, conservation, and education. These natural and shared greenspaces marry nature, culture and adventure to create limitless opportunities for discovery.

Summary of Duties
The Program Associate - Digitization and Assets Assistant position will support the NPCA staff with the implementation of our digital transformation strategy. Working as an integral part of the team, this role will provide input to the document management structure and work with a cross-functional team to ensure information is digitized and recorded appropriately including adherence to records retention and privacy and security guidelines.
This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs program and candidates must be between the ages of 15-30 and eligible under this program: (have Canadian Citizenship, Permanent Residency or Refugee Protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; have a valid social insurance number; and be legally entitled to work in Canada).
Key Responsibilities

  • Classify, organize, collate and scan organization’s records to support implementation of enterprise-wide document management system.
  • Collaborate with staff members to ensure best practices for digital transformation of hard copy data into digital formats
  • Assist in the updating of a records retention policy for the digital document management system
  • Environmental data field collection using GPS data collection systems (natural assets initiative)

Qualifications

  • Educational background or courses related to business management, information technology or information and records management
  • Interest in environmental sciences
  • Knowledge of GPS systems / programs would be considered an asset
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to take initiative and problem solve
  • G class drivers license

Location: NPCA Main Office - 3350 Merrittville Hwy, Thorold, ON
Salary: $17.50-$18.00/hour up to 35 hrs/week
