As a community-based natural resource management agency, the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority envisions a healthy and vibrant natural environment with shared greenspace and clean water for all.
NPCA’s work supports the conservation, enhancement, and sustainability of healthy watersheds with programs and services that focus on drinking water source protection, flood and hazard management, endangered species protection, ecosystem restoration, community stewardship, education, and land management.

NPCA is the caretaker of 41 conservation areas within the Niagara Peninsula watershed held in public trust for recreation, heritage preservation, conservation, and education. These natural and shared greenspaces marry nature, culture, and adventure to create limitless opportunities for discovery.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Supervisor, Trees for All, the Technician, Trees for All will support implementation of medium to high complexity projects within the Trees for All planting service operations including data collection, program administrative procedures and outreach. Primary responsibilities will include tree planting implementation spanning project engagement, design, planning, budget monitoring, site preparation, planting and post-monitoring as well as communication with external stakeholders
Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Supporting the analysis and interpretation of biological and biophysical information to develop tree-planting projects.
  • Coordinating and overseeing the delivery and completion of low complexity tree planting projects including afforestation, forest habitat restoration, wooded area, community tree plantings and/or urban canopy cover establishment, and other naturalization efforts using trees and shrubs
  • Providing in field implementation of planting project plans as provided.
  • Collecting field data collection requirements throughout project life cycle.
  • Supporting project implementation from site preparation through planting and monitoring
  • Collaborating with municipal partners, consultants and project specific contractors in support of project planning
  • Attending relevant outreach events to promote NPCA programming and build community/agency support for a coordinated approach to ecological restoration across the watershed, as needed

What you Bring

  • Post-secondary education in Forestry, Environmental Science or related.
  • Relevant experience implementing afforestation or ecological restoration projects
  • Native Seed Collection Certification an asset
  • Experience in effective communications and stakeholder relations including community engagement
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a high performing team within tight deadlines
