Restoration Program Assistant Summer Student Positions 18-Week Contract Starting May 2021

The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) is a community-based natural resource management agency that works to protect, enhance, and sustain healthy watersheds. With 60 years of experience, the NPCA offers watershed programs and services that focus on flood and hazard management, source water protection, species protection, ecosystem restoration, community stewardship, and land management.

The NPCA is one of 36 Conservation Authorities in the Province of Ontario. With 41 Conservation Areas within the Niagara Peninsula watershed, the NPCA manages lands that are held in public trust for recreation, heritage preservation, conservation, and education. These natural and shared greenspaces marry nature, culture and adventure to create limitless opportunities for discovery.

Summary of Duties

  • The Restoration Program Assistant holds an important organizational role as a team member responsible for assisting with the implementation of the Restoration Program.
  • Duties and Responsibilities
  • The Restoration Program Assistant will assist with:
  • The implementation of projects as required to meet the objectives of NPCA Restoration Program and other stewardship initiatives as they are developed. 
  • The development of a restoration project monitoring protocol for the NPCA’s Restoration Program
  • Data Management of past Restoration Program projects

 Qualifications

  • Knowledge and interest in the area of Environmental Studies / Resource Management
  • Knowledge of plant species identification
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Good understanding of computer skills (MS Excel, Access, Power Point and Word);
  • Willing to work outdoors, in different or adverse environmental conditions;
  • Self-motivated and can take initiative for assigned work;
  • Must possess a valid Ministry of Transportation Class “G” driver’s license;
  • Must be able to work safely in accordance with the NPCA Health and Safety Policies

Salary Range:  $15.50/ hour (35 hours per week)
