The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) and the St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC) are collaborating under the Trees for All initiative to enhance biodiversity and improve watershed health through the planting of 3,000 native trees across the Niagara Peninsula watershed.
The collaborative effort included two large-scale fall plantings:
- 800 trees at Gainsborough Conservation Area on October 22, supported by NPCA volunteers and local community groups.
- 2,200 trees at Smith-Ness Conservation Area on November 13, with participation from NPCA staff, SLSMC employees, and volunteers.
These plantings were made possible through funding from SLSMC, supporting local restoration efforts that provide essential benefits and restore habitats, improve water quality, and expand tree cover.
Through the Trees for All program, NPCA continues to make progress in reaching its goal of planting 80,000 trees by 2028 thanks to program participants such as SLSMC, local municipalities, and community organizations. This work contributes to NPCA’s commitment to restore and enhance natural spaces for future generations with funding support from Natural Resource Canada’s 2 Billion Trees program.
What began as discussions with the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Foundation (NPCF) evolved into the SLSMC partnership – an initiative that has led to lasting environmental action across the watershed. Through this collaboration, partners are helping to grow Niagara’s tree canopy and advance large-scale restoration efforts. Corporations and organizations can further support this work by contributing to local tree-planting projects through donations to NPCF.
Join a community planting as a volunteer and make a hands-on difference in your watershed.
